History of caviar

The earliest records of caviar consumption come from ancient Persia ( modern-day Iran ), where it was believed to have medicinal properties. The word “caviar” comes from the Persian word “khav-yar” which means “cake of strength”. As early as the 9th century, they harvested the roe of sturgeon from the Caspian Sea and salted it for preservation and consumption.

Caviar’s journey from ancient delicacy to modern luxury has been marked by periods of abundance and scarcity, influenced by culture, economic, and environmental factors. Today, the focus on sustainability aims to preserve this delicacy for future generations while protecting the sturgeon species that provide it.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How should I store Cavair ?

Caviar is is exceptionally perishable delicacy and must be stored in bloodless, refrigerated temperaures (28°-38° F) with minimum air vulnerability . For the utmost quality, we advocate departing the caviar in your fridge UNOPENED unless you’re ready to eat it.

UNOPENED tin of sturgeon caviar has a refrigerated shelf life of 4-6 weeks. Once opened, however, the tin should be kept chilled and the caviar must be consumed within 24 hours.

Premium-grade caviar should never be frozen.

Caviar offers a wealth of possibilities for enjoyment, whether through traditional pairings with champagne or vodka, or atop blinis with crème fraîche. It’s crucial to avoid silver or steel flatware, as these can impart an unwanted metallic taste. Instead serve with pearl spoon and always keep your caviar over ice when serving to maintain ideal flavor and presentation.
